Strength is Necessary
Impact lumber will not twist, splinter, rot or decay. In comparison to wood,
Impact lumber possess a much greater compressive strength. Flexural strength
is in the range of 1/2 to 2/3 that of wood. Harsh elements, severe
temperatures, submersion in fresh or salt water and freeze / thaw cycles
have little effect on our products. They will not suffer a reduction in
structural integrity due to insect damage, termites, rodents, road salt, and
periodic contamination with oil, gasoline and many corrosive chemicals.
Composition
Impact lumber are a plastic composite product manufactured with 100%
recycled materials including post-consumer plastics and the non-metallic
by-product from recycling automobiles. Please note that our feedstock
contains trace amounts of non-ferrous metals, it provides some UV
stabilizing and fire-retardant qualities while being used as a filler.
Life Span
Impact lumber has a life expectancy of 75 - 100 years. Severe temperatures,
submersion in fresh or salt water and freeze/thaw cycles have little effect
on our products. They will not suffer a reduction in structural integrity
due to insect damage, termites, rodents, road salt, and periodic
contamination with oil, gasoline and many corrosive chemicals.
Impact-Posts vs. Wood
Impact-Posts offer a proven alternative to wood and have characteristics
that make them more suitable in many applications. Although the compressive
strength of Impact-Posts exceeds that of wood, the flexural strength is less
than that of wood and therefore they should not be substituted for wood
products without regard to engineering considerations and testing for the
intended application. In horizontal applications we recommend supports on
four foot centers.
Impact-Curbs vs. Concrete
Our lighter weight eliminates the need for heavy equipment during
installation while our superior durability will reduce overall maintenance
and replacement costs. Our composite has a unique shock absorbing capability
that makes it less prone to chipping and cracking thereby minimizing damage
by mechanical impact from heavy equipment.
